Artist Statement
Alexa Leggett
As a senior at the Tyler School of Art and Architecture, I am still learning a lot about myself as a painter, artist and individual. Within this investigation I am using my oil paintings as a way of self-exploration. I have discovered that I work well with patterns, and I love to focus on life- people, animals, etc. I am mainly influenced by dogs, family, pop culture, and reality television. In my practice I use symbolism to reveal deeper meanings about my family and the relationships and connections I have with them. I enjoy using dogs and foods to represent different traits of these important people in my life. My paintings typically have some elements of realism in the focus areas, with exaggerated colors and backgrounds. When viewers see my work, I want them to feel a sense of comfort and joy, stemming from color choice and content. |
